Review

Rings, uneven bars, balance beam, pommel horse—these activities and
others like them fascinate many youngsters as soon as they can turn
their first somersault. Unfortunately, most books on gymnastics are
usually too technical for young readers to enjoy; this one, however, is
aimed at junior tumblers.

Gymnastics’ easy-to-read text outlines the principles of each of the
eight categories of gymnastic events, and concisely explains the
importance of safety rules, nutrition, and training. Another appealing
aspect is that its dozens of attractive photographs feature junior
gymnasts (most under 10) warming up and performing the activities.
Biographical profiles of these athletes are provided as a further source
of encouragement for young readers.

This fun book is sure to inspire even nonathletic children. Highly
recommended.
