Review

Bobbie Kalman knows that kids love big trucks, and what trucks could be
bigger than dirt movers? In this book devoted to those giants of
machinery, children will learn about giant wheels, about crawlers with
steel tread, and about buckets, dumpers, and dipper arms. They will see
how these huge machines build roads and quarry rock. When they finish
reading the book, they will have a real understanding of both the
functions and the parts of heavy equipment. The power and size of these
machines will dazzle girls as well as boys (I speak from experience,
having lived with a “dirt moving” dad).

As with all Kalman’s books, this one is filled with clear, vivid, and
explanatory photographs and illustrations. New words are highlighted in
boldfaced type, and the book closes with a picture glossary.
Recommended.
