Review

This book is an excellent introduction and guide for the novice
environmentalist. Written in easily understood prose, and illustrated
with quality photographs and line drawings, this book should help
readers understand current environmental problems and how individuals or
groups can contribute toward their solution. The author explains the
human relationship to the world as a whole, and describes the impact
that human activity has had on the planet. He develops the idea that the
key to the environmental challenge lies in personal attitudes toward the
world. Then he outlines a number of strategies for changing one’s own
attitude and for educating others to take the steps necessary to solve
environmental challenges. The “Three Rs” are described and
explained, and wise choices toward an environmentally friendly lifestyle
are outlined. The book includes a self-assessment quiz that gauges
readers’ own level of commitment to solving the environmental crisis.
A glossary helps readers understand the terms and catch-phrases that are
part of the environmental lexicon.
