Review

Strong Winds comprises single poems from 89 members—both veteran poets
and newcomers—of the Canadian Poetry Association. The poems, which are
usually drawn from daily life, express a wide range of felt emotions,
variously loving, tender, earthy, poignant, questing, and spiritually
accepting. Some ponder the shifting nature of human relationships, while
others dwell on the changing seasons in nature. Above all, there is a
consistent clarity of expression: vocabulary is straightforward,
concise, and couched in the rhythms of everyday speech. Only the cover
photo seems a trifle ambiguous. Recommended for public libraries and for
poetry lovers.
