Review

This comprehensive reference book is a valuable resource on the study
and understanding of suicide and suicide treatment and prevention in
Canada. Many of the contributing authors are those who helped develop
this field of study and the models of treatment we currently use. Of
particular interest is the coverage given to the suicide of First
Nations people. This section not only includes the contributions of
outside researchers and workers but also of Native Elders, giving a more
complete overview of this major problem and its impact on the community.

The style of the collection varies from section to section, reflecting
the orientation and emphasis of the various authors. This basic source
book is an important addition to the growing literature on suicide in
Canada.
