Review

This collection of articles on politics, policy, and government in
British Columbia in recent decades is divided into four parts.

Part 1 examines the province’s political history, political economy,
and political culture. Part 2 includes chapters on the polarized nature
of British Columbia politics, the unique dynamics of the provincial
legislature, the extent and nature of women’s participation in
provincial elections and the provincial legislature, and the role of the
media. The three chapters in Part 3 explore the relationship between
premiers and cabinets, bureaucratic transitions, and the administration
of justice. Part 4 contains articles on fiscal policy, welfare policy,
environmental policy, and the policy orientations of social democratic
governments in the province.

Generally well-researched and well-written, the articles that make up
this volume provide a well-rounded picture of politics and governance in
British Columbia.
