Review

Despite its considerable interest and importance, the small university
in Canada has not received adequate scholarly examination. The focus of
this book is not the small university in general—as the title would
lead one to expect—but rather New Brunswick’s Mount Allison
University in particular. Although the book does offer some interesting
chapters on curriculum development and student experience at Mount
Allison, it fails to provide the broader examination promised in its
title, which might more accurately have read Essays on Mount Allison as
a Small Liberal Arts College. Nevertheless, the book stands as a useful
addition to a patently inadequate literature.
