Nuremberg Forty Years Later: The Struggle against Injustice in Our Time

Irwin Cotler has assembled this volume of papers given at the
International Human Rights Conference, which was held in Montreal in
1987 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Nuremberg war-crimes trials.

The bringing to justice of former Nazis alleged to have committed
atrocities during World War II continues to occupy attention. A whole
new round of war crimes have surfaced in the wake of the Yugoslavian
civil war. This volume, which provides a general background to the
problem of human-rights abuses in the international context, should be
of interest to both the student of international politics and the
general reader. A particularly thorny issue tackled at the conference
was the problem of freedom of expression versus freedom from expression.
To take a specific example, to what extent should a society provide a
platform for the expression of Holocaust denial views? Should the
Zundels and Keegstras be debated or denied?
