Review

This well-written book provides a wealth of information concerning the
well-being of women. Dhruvarajan, a University of Winnipeg associate
professor of Sociology, has selected 20 articles dealing with women’s
well-being and with the means to bring this issue into the open. The
articles were chosen from the Canadian Research Institute for the
Advancement of Women conference, held in Winnipeg in 1987, and have been
published in both French and English. They focus on such concerns as
health, work, minority status, and knowledge. Each article is well
documented, each has a detailed bibliography, and some even provide
statistics. A biography of the contributors is included—an excellent
addition when the reader is dealing with more than one author.

This book will be invaluable to all women. Many distinguished people
bring us up to date on women’s issues. For example, one of the
contributors, Monique Bégin, discusses the restructuring of health care
for women, while another, Monique Rambault, discusses a survey conducted
on women with disabilities. I would recommend this book to everyone. The
well-being of women should never be ignored.
