Review

Clearly, there is a large and, from an author’s and presumably a publisher’s perspective, lucrative market out there for books dealing with trivia questions and answers. The back-cover blurb refers to the author’s “passion for what he considers relevant information about this wonderful country.” Quizzes are not my strong suit and, during four decades teaching Canadian history at various levels from grade nine to doctoral programs, I rarely drafted multiple choice questions because I felt they trivialized what I was trying to do—create a love for and a knowledge of Canada’s past. Perhaps I was all wrong and instead I might have accomplished my objectives by distributing quiz books filled with unconnected queries that could be answered with three words or less. Perhaps, but I don’t think so.

In any case, if you are interested in any of our regions’ histories and if you can be inspired or even informed by quiz books, this one, containing 1,000 questions (with the answers at the back), is another one for your collection.
