Review

The author and the hero of this adventure have at least three things in
common: both live in Comox, British Columbia; both write speeches; and
both have worked for a federal minister of justice.

After accepting a commission to write some promotional material for a
Vancouver mining promoter of dubious character, the hero of Downshift
finds himself dogged by sinister figures. At the same time, his ex-wife
involves him in a campaign to promote a political candidate. Things go
from bad to worse when our hero’s two assignments intersect.

Readers of this fast-moving, well-written yarn will appreciate its
authentic locations and trenchant take on B.C. politics.
