Review
Safe House by James Heneghan tells the story of Liam, set in Northern Ireland in the year 1999. His parents are murdered and Liam is able to just barely escape with his life. He seeks the help of the local police only to find that even in the safe house he is assigned he is not safe. The owners have been bribed to give Liam up to the man that murdered his parents. Corruption in this novel runs deep. Liam can only rely on himself if he wants to survive this ordeal.
Safe House provides a very realistic portrayal of the violence that existed in Northern Ireland in 1999. James Heneghan succeeds in recreating the time and the conflicts that existed between the Catholics and Protestants. The only fault is that a young boy is able to piece together the pieces of the puzzle and outsmart and outrun the adults who want to kill him. In spite of this, the novel is a page-turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat cheering for Liam. Highly recommended.
