Review

Jim Taylor, a veteran sportswriter based in Vancouver, has written seven
books including biographies of hockey great Wayne Gretzky and “Man in
Motion” Rick Hansen. In this collection of newspaper columns spanning
the mid- to late 1990s, Taylor covers famous, infamous, and unknown
sports figures. Humorous and self-effacing, he provides in his columns a
useful record of a particular era in Canadian sport. The passage of time
has made some topics, such as the Nancy Keerigan–Tonya Harding saga,
appear even more ridiculous than they were at the time; five years
later, it is hard to believe that Harding’s exploits garnered so much
attention. Sports fans will enjoy this collection.
