Review

For those who are not already cryptic-crossword addicts, this book
explains various devices used to encrypt clues: anagrams, reversals,
homonyms, and so forth. Each explanation is followed by a short exercise
that shows how it works in practice. The reader is then presented with
50 full-size puzzles, answers included.

Fraser Simpson has been supplying cryptic crosswords to The Globe and
Mail since 1994. His book should come with a warning: “Contents may be
habit-forming.”
