Review

Zigzoo, the mighty dragon, has a miserable cold. His scales have turned blue, his voice is gone, and even his fire has been extinguished. None of the experts to whom he is referred, including two doctors, an herbalist, a pharmacist, and a dentist, are any help at all.

With hopes of ever regaining his fire fading, poor Zigzoo begins to cry. Suddenly, a little girl has an idea: you would go to a toy department to find toys, so why not look for fire at a fire department? The story ends happily with Zigzoo helping others (in fact, one of the very people who refused him help) at the same time that he’s helping himself.

Zigzoo—When a Dragon Catches a Cold will appeal to preschool and early primary children who love stories about dragons. They will enjoy the repetition and predictability as Zigzoo visits one expert after another in search of a cure. Wei Xu’s humorous illustrations add interest and detail to the story. Recommended.
