Review

In this latest Take It to the Xtreme adventure, Jake and Peter are hired as Wakeboard Instructors at a start-up Wakeboard School in Bellingham, Washington. The boys are dismayed when they arrive to find the facilities are little more than a run-down cabin and an old barn. The owner, a carefree adventurer and skilled wakeboard enthusiast named Rocky, shares a private lake with his sister, whose home is on the opposite shore in a community of artists who live off the land and observe the eagles nesting nearby. Jake and Peter feel caught in the conflict and tension that arises between the siblings, which is exacerbated when Rocky’s niece is encouraged by Peter to join in the wakeboarding fun on their side of the lake. Jake also becomes concerned about the consequences of their sport on the local environment. Happily, both sides learn trust, tolerance, and respect for each other and the environment.

Although the wakeboard action will hook sports enthusiasts from the beginning, the increasing tension, mystery, and suspense will keep them reading. The environmental mystery causes the wakeboarders to become aware of the impact of their sport on the environment, but the story offers solutions that allow the sport to be viewed with respect when practised responsibly. As a quick and exciting read this is a great choice, and fans of the series will be happy to find familiar characters and situations.
Recommended.
