A second-place finish in the North American Formula Atlantic Championship race in Milwaukee brought Eddie Stewart a sponsor, and a chance at winning the series. In this sequel to Full Throttle, the team is in Toronto for their first race as professionals. Everything is going well during practice and qualifying, but on the morning of race day, Eddie discovers that his custom-designed rear wings have been stolen. Although his team knows that a rival team is to blame, there is no way to prove it. Thankfully, a friendly rival offers them the use of a spare wing and Eddie gets a chance to race, and to prove his professionalism and sportsmanship.
This is a great sports story for racing fans. The plot includes all aspects of a racing event, from the pre-race publicity engagements, through the practice and qualifying days as the team makes adjustments to both the race car and racing strategy, and naturally includes an exciting description of the final race. The author is informative of technical considerations while maintaining a fast pace with lots of action and a good bit of humour. Eddie is a winning character, earnest, thoughtful, and very likable. The series fans will enjoy the interaction and competition between Eddie and his rivals: the friendly and funny Stephan, and the morally reprehensible Raul DaSilva. Although the rival characters are clearly delineated as either terribly evil or exceptionally good, this makes cheering for the good guys especially entertaining. Highly Recommended.
