Review

Patsy Cline, who had recorded over 100 songs and four albums when a
plane crash ended her life in 1963, is considered “the bench-mark by
which any female artist, who has ever covered a country song, is
measured.” This biography is the author’s response to biographical
treatments that have taken “considerable license” with the facts of
Cline’s life. Hall’s stated intention to offer new “shadings to
her personal and professional image which others have often coloured in
with conjecture and titillation” is reflected in his balanced portrait
of Cline. He makes effective use of authorized interviews with those who
knew Cline to tell the story of this passionate and unique artist.
