Review

Cathy Carnahan’s second book about her beloved Miramichi is an
unabashed panagyric aimed at tourists. Carnahan, a journalist and
photographer, has arranged her handsome shots by season, starting with
spring. The summer section receives the lion’s share of space—51
full-page color shots, compared with 14 for spring, 29 for autumn, and
19 for winter. Attesting to the region’s amazing variety and natural
beauty are Carnahan’s pictures of river and forest scenes, salmon
anglers and guides, commercial fishermen and their boats; delightfully
candid photos of (mostly summer) tourists are also featured. This ideal
souvenir book includes a brief introduction that concludes with a map of
the region.
