Review

First came Father Knows Zilch: A Guide for Dumbfounded Dads. Now, with
This House is Nuts, Linwood Barclay, a popular newspaper personality and
columnist for the Toronto Star, continues to entertain readers with his
humorous perspective on family life.

In the Barclay household, avoiding taking the garbage out is a fine
art. Laundry frequently poses a problem as socks get lost and jockey
shorts end up in the wrong hampers. As people mature, the author
observes, their style of entertaining also changes; in the 1990s,
offering a good meal, good company, and a good nap is one of the most
rewarding ways to entertain friends. As for modern technology, Barclay
has views on everything from cell phones and e-mail to fax machines and
intercom systems. With a blend of parental frustration and humor, he
explores the topics of home, school, chores, and the mall.

Much like that of humorists Dave Barry, Erma Bombeck, and Andy Rooney,
Barclay’s wit is sure to put a smile on your face.
