Review

This collection of nursery rhymes is a condensed version of Mother Goose: A Canadian Sampler, which was first published in 1994 for the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program.

Some of Canada’s most notable illustrators came together to provide the artwork for this volume.

Nursery rhymes are a fundamental part of childhood. This sturdy board book of fifteen rhymes is illustrated by 16 celebrated Canadian illustrators, including, Marie-Louise Gay, Barbara Reid, Phoebe Gilman, and Jirina Marton. Each rhyme—“Round and Round the Garden,” “Father, Mother and Uncle John,” “The Man in the Moon,” and more—is laid out on one double page with full colour illustrations. The royalties from the book go to the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program (www.nald.ca/mothergooseprogram), which teaches low-income families the importance of reading and rhyming together. This book is perfect for one-on-one lap time for birth through five.
