Review

Written by someone who combines an insider’s knowledge of the Canadian
rock music business with a fan’s adoration of its stars, On a Cold
Road is an entertaining and enlightening chronicle of the experiences of
Canadian rock bands as they travel across Canada and the United States.
Bidini’s own band, the Rheostatics, toured Canada with The Tragically
Hip. His solidly researched book interweaves his own reflections with
those of such notable Canadian musicians as Kim Mitchell, Bruce
Cockburn, Ken Tobias, Shari Ulrich, and Rik Emmett. Bidini shows us the
glamorous side of the business, but we also see the incredible fortitude
and dedication that is demanded of those who pursue a career in popular
music in Canada.
