Review

Townson, an economist and a member of the Canada Pension Plan Advisory
Board who has served on pivotal pension and tax commissions, is very
knowledgeable about women’s financial issues. In this clearly written
and accessible book, she outlines the difficulties women face in
preparing for a secure old age and provides valuable information on such
topics as private pensions, government security and retirement programs,
insurance, taxes, RRSPs, divorce settlements, and death benefits.
Financial issues relating to abusive relationships, same-sex rights, and
immigration are also covered.

Throughout Townson makes the point that women need to take
responsibility for their financial situation and at the same time assert
their rights. Every Canadian woman should read this book.
