Review

A byproduct of Vancouver’s extensive international population is its
well-known international food culture, and Food City makes it all
accessible. This invaluable resource for the home gourmet or the seeker
of interesting treats includes everything you would expect in such a
guide (ingredients, great take-out, markets), plus the unexpected
(nutritionists, cooking schools, and the history of the Nanaimo bar).

Do you want to cook international specialties yourself? Then turn to
the section on stocking your kitchen at the cookware stores that cater
to the professionals. Once your kitchen is ready, obtain all the
ingredients you need from the ethnic areas of town, farmers’ markets,
or meat and fish markets. Still need some help? Then turn to the section
on finding recipes on the Net, or read the review of cooking schools in
Vancouver. If the challenge of cooking for your dinner party is too much
to bear, refer to the lists of great restaurants that provide takeout or
catering services. With additional sections on where the chefs shop, how
to contact food professionals, and kid-friendly restaurants, this useful
guide provides a surfeit of information for food lovers living in
Vancouver.
