Review

While his parents are off on an ecological tour of the world’s rain
forests, Remington Wickers has been enrolled at a prestigious riding
camp. It does not take long for Remington to discover that he hates the
camp. He has nowhere to go but Camp Kokatow, a fishing camp run by the
Kokatow family, who have agreed to assume responsibility for Remington
in the event of an emergency. This is an emergency, but young Kiff
Kokatow is not pleased about Remington’s staying with the family. Kiff
still has not forgotten how his summer was spoiled two years ago, when
Remington and his parents were guests at the fishing camp.

This summer, however, Kiff soon loses interest in Remington and his
friends, Josie and Odie. Kiff believes that he has discovered gold near
the old Carter mine. Along with his find comes awareness of an impending
ecological disaster for his community.

This well-written, exciting adventure story would be worthwhile library
purchase for readers 8 to 12.
