Review

Patrick is a very good boy—almost like an angel. When Patrick does get
into trouble, it’s usually because Murphy the cat has been causing
mischief. Written and illustrated by the daughter/father team of Tatiana
Tonks and Carlos Freire, Murphy is a funny story suitable for children
aged 2 to 6. Kids will relate to poor Patrick’s plight; his parents
just don’t understand! Young readers will especially appreciate the
last plot twist.

Freire’s drawings are fun, too. Patrick and Murphy could be brothers:
both are chubby and apple-cheeked, with sandy, sprouty hair. They’re
an entertaining team, as are their creators. Perhaps we’ll see more of
Patrick and his mischievous cat in the future.
