Review

The many fine color photographs in this coffee-table book amply
illustrate the architectural, cultural, and natural attractions of
Montreal. An excellent cover photograph neatly compresses the city’s
history with the inner harbor, 19th-century structures, and, in the
background, modern office buildings silhouetted against the pink glow of
sunset. Seventy-two other photographs give representative views of the
city throughout the four seasons. Although the wrong university is
placed on Mount Royal, and the size of the Island of Montreal is
mistakenly given in kilometres when the numbers actually represent
miles, the text is otherwise adequate. Overall, the book serves as a
good introduction to the city’s unique charm and beauty.
