Review

“Jenny and Joanna are baseball mad.” Even their dogs play catch.
When Grandma offers to take them to the stadium for a professional game,
they are delighted. Through the excitement of the balloons, popcorn, and
crackerjacks, Grandma manages to make an amazing save for the home team,
and all three return home tired and happy.

Joyful illustrations by Toronto’s Maryann Kovalski make this
large-format picture book a winner for baseball fans who love the Blue
Jays. The fluid drawings contain whimsical details children will love to
examine. The music and words of the original song are included.

This book would be a good choice for librarians and teachers who would
like to encourage girls in sports (or for grandmothers to read to their
granddaughters). Kovalski is a well-known author/illustrator of several
other titles for young children. This one is recommended as a
first-choice purchase for preschool and primary-grade children, baseball
lovers, and grandmothers.
