Review

“Who is the king of cats?” the young heroine asks her cat. He’s
not telling. She, however, is taken—via the exquisite full-page, color
illustrations in this large-format picture book—on a fantasy tour of
the world inhabited by the big cats.

The story is simple and brief. Details of the cats’ habitats are
exotic visual treats. The brisk pace and general appeal of the subject
make this book a good choice for an effective story time with
preschoolers or early primary-grade children. Though it provides
specific information on the cat family, The King of Cats is primarily a
book to be read for pleasure—again and again.
