Review

Gentle Finster finds a pair of birds nesting in his hair. His wife,
Holly Berry, tries to get them out with threats of making a bird pie or
feather porridge; a wild race behind their horse, Wind Dancer; wading in
the pond; and, finally, having Finster blow his nose.

Baker’s imaginative language creates a marvelous yarn, filled with
joyous enthusiasm, humorous dialogue, and delightful happenings. Young
children in preschool or primary grades will be charmed by the words and
events in this intriguing story. Zimmermann’s wonderful illustrations
are a perfect extension of the text, with their free-flowing movement,
bright colors, and funny insight into both human and animal characters.

Filled with stimulating language and charming illustrations, Finster
Frets is certain to be a lasting addition to both public and personal
libraries.
