Review

A cartoon format encourages junior-grade students to ask questions about
shapes and sizes of molecules, liquids, gases, and various other natural
objects. Children can learn how octopuses move so quickly, how soap
works, what crystals are, why a train whistle changes pitch as it
passes, and why steel ships float.

Popular broadcaster David Suzuki encourages youngsters to look at
structure in nature and learn scientific principles. Did You Know . . .
is a browsing book, fun to read while travelling, perfect for a science
corner in the resource centre or classroom; it could also be an idea
source for science projects or additional research. Children could pose
more questions for their classmates or illustrate their research in a
similar style. This title should be a popular one for reluctant readers
because of its humorously illustrated one-page information chunks. It
will also encourage further reading and scientific activity.

Recommended for personal as well as school and public library
collections.
