“She had felt the wonderful sensation of belonging and, truth be
known, her decision was made”: so Sara Stanley decides to stay at
Avonlea with her cousins and two aunts, after a disappointing
introduction to family life on the Island.

Sara had come from her Montreal home to live with her aunt when her
father found himself in financial difficulties. She has a hard time
adjusting from her sophisticated city life to that of the country.

Students who have watched the television series will be attracted to
this adaptation of L.M. Montgomery’s work. Photographs from the series
are included, along with an attractive front-cover picture of the
actresses. Adair and Rosenstock adopt a conversational, fast-moving
writing style guaranteed to appeal to young people ages 10-12 who have
enjoyed the popular television series.

The Journey Begins, the opening episode in the Road to Avonlea series,
introduces many of the characters of the following books.
