Review

This book describes how animals survive winter in the temperate zones.
Colorful double-page illustrations portray 36 different species in
interesting groupings. Two pages of text at the end provide additional
information on some of the major kinds of adaptations made by animals to
cold weather and food shortages.

The brief introduction does not seem appropriate for the rest of the
book. It refers to Mr. Click and his camera on a photo safari, but this
is a collection of illustrations, not photographs. Mr. Click’s
presence is noted in each illustration, sometimes rather subtly.

Young children will enjoy comparing their observations of the signs of
winter in the animal world with the characteristics presented.
