Review

This children’s book is about two intrepid young beavers whose valiant
enterprise saves the damn and their neighbors’ pond. The story is told
in doggerel that young children should find easy to remember; after a
few readings, they are likely to begin reciting it themselves. While the
verse format has a charm, the cadence goes, at times, a bit awry.

The illustrations are delightful. They have a “cuteness,” with
ducks in rainhats, owls with bow ties and pince-nez, and frogs in
fishing trunks, that is very appealing. The quality of the draftsmanship
and sheer beauty of the painting is a charming aspect of this
publication.
