Review

Three children operating a curbside lemonade stand find business slow at
first. Then their first customer—a prospector thirsty after a morning
shovelling rock—arrives. He is soon followed by a variety of other
characters: a race-car driver, an astronaut, a spy, a clown, a deep-sea
diver, and other exceptional people. The children are amazed and excited
as each new customer comes around the corner.

Slavin colors in a cosy neighborhood as the backdrop to the busy
lemonade stand. He and author Brooks sprinkle in enough clues so that
inquisitive young readers may conclude one person was behind all the
disguises. When the lemonade eventually runs out, the children ponder
the predictable question of whether to save or spend the proceeds, or
use them to make more lemonade. Author and illustrator present a
humorous version of this traditional childhood business.
