Review
Everything you wanted to know about milk and then some—that is what
this book delivers. Readers will learn the history of milk, its
nutritional value, what it is, where it comes from, and how it gets from
the cow to the kitchen.
Once in the kitchen, recipes are provided for invisible ink, glue,
yogurt, popsicles, cottage cheese, cheese, curds, butter, fried milk,
ice cream, milk shakes, and Baked Alaska. Readers will be tested on
their “milk savvy,” and will learn how to test many milk-based
products for fat content.
Crafts ideas using recycled milk cartons include gift boxes, boats,
candles, and bird feeders. The book ends with glossary, index, and test
answers.
The authors and illustrator have combined clearly written text with
simple black-and-white sketches. Juvenile readers are not the only ones
who will be educated and entertained by this factual but light-hearted
look at milk and the dairy industry.
Other titles in this Kids Can Press series are The Amazing Dirt Book,
The Amazing Egg Book, The Amazing Paper Book, and The Amazing Apple
Book.
