Review

Make It with Boxes is divided into five parts: making boxes, surprises
in a box, games, boxes to wear, and putting on a show. It is full of
creative ideas for six- to twelve-year-olds, all pretested on Irvine’s
children and friends. Hendry’s clear illustrations assist young
readers in following instructions. Suggestions for recycling are
included, along with rainy-day activities, crafts for parties, plays,
school projects, art ideas, dioramas, costumes, and puppets.

Irvine is a teacher and author of How to Make Pop-ups. Make It With
Boxes won the Ontario Writer’s Award from the Federation of Women
Teachers. Hendry is the well-known illustrator of The Amazing Potato
Book and several picture books.

Make It With Boxes is an idea book for teachers and children to foster
creativity, assist with projects, or encourage involvement in drama. It
is easy to follow with a minimum of adult assistance. Recommended for
school- or public-library and personal collections.
