Review

A companion volume to their new record album and to their very
successful Mother Goose Book, this collection, drawn from the popular
trio’s repertoire, walks us through the alphabet. Starting with a
traditional A-B-C song, “The Alphabet,” and “ABC Jig,” under
“C is for Chicken,” we find “Chick, chick, chicken,”
“C-H-I-C-K-E-N,” and “Ham and eggs”; under “N,” “The Name
Game,” and under “XYZ,” “X-Innararink,” Under “F,” “Five
Little Fishes” has both French and English lyrics. The musical
notation is included. Each song is laid out on a double-page spread and
is accompanied by humorous illustrations (by the award-winning LaFave),
which show two girls and a boy who just might be younger incarnations of
Sharon, Lois, and Bram themselves. They frolic through their
neighborhood, pay a visit to a farm, and bring together all the
characters they meet for the grand finale. Great fun and a must for all
Canadian libraries.
