Review

In The Mystery of the Turtle Lake Monster, 12-year-old Justin Daniels
and his friends Kiel and Katie are determined to prove the existence of
a Loch Ness Monster-like creature that has been sighted in the small
resort community of Turtle Lake. It soon becomes apparent that someone
does not want the truth to be uncovered; the children receive an
anonymous letter warning them not to pursue their investigation. Despite
such threats, however, they refuse to abandon their detective work.

Some readers may quickly unravel the mystery of the monster—the
author, perhaps, gives away too many hints early in the story. At times
the reader may be frustrated by the sleuthing efforts of the young
detectives, who fail to recognize clues and draw conclusions that may
seem somewhat obvious.

Most people, even the most cynical, are fascinated when new sightings
of mysterious creatures such as the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot are
reported. The plot will appeal to readers aged 9 to 11.
