Review

This is a children’s storybook dealing with aids. It explicitly
demonstrates what is safe, and how children should deal with an infected
person: they can still play with an infected child, touch him or her,
share plates, and so on. A page of pictures depicts safe activities.
Merrifield, a medical doctor, defines and explains hiv and aids, so
parents can learn about these issues and help their children be
open-minded about people with the disease.

The book is well written, and uses terms children will understand.
Although aids is a delicate and controversial issue, Merrifield explains
it well to both children and parents.

This book will be a useful resource for parents. It is a story children
will enjoy, and it provides a good way for parents to inform their
children, without scaring them, about hiv and aids.
