Review

This book of poems is an absolute delight, and is sure to be a hit with
children, parents, and teachers alike.

Divided into four sections—“Floyd’s Flock,” “Day Play,”
“Silly Play,” and “Night Play”—the volume is filled with
lively, rollicking, toe-tapping, joyful poems. Some deal with topics to
which kids can easily relate. Some pose questions that children may have
wondered about, such as “what flavour is a jellyfish?” Some have a
“twist”—a monkey mother behaves just like a human. Some are
somewhat serious and contain a kernel of truth, as in “Beware of
Humans.” Some are downright silly. But all are just plain fun.

Kathryn Shoemaker’s whimsical colour drawings are a perfect
complement to the poems and add to the humour and enjoyment.

In addition to the sheer pleasure derived from reading, hearing, and
sharing these poems, some readers may be challenged to write their own
“silly” verses. Highly recommended.
