Review
Waiting for Sarah tells the story of a young boy who was recently
crippled in a car crash that killed his entire family. The boy is
emotionally distant and angry at the world until he meets an eccentric
girl named Sarah. Gradually, he learns to step outside his own internal
world as he becomes increasingly concerned about Sarah’s welfare.
Then, without warning, Sarah disappears, and the remainder of the novel
deals almost entirely with a supernatural twist that is introduced
three-quarters of the way into the plot.
The ideas in this juvenile pulp novel are poorly conceived. The writing
is generic, often awkward, and sometimes ungrammatical. Waiting for
Sarah had the potential to be an effective mystery instead of the bland
and forgettable book that it is. Not recommended.
