Review

This charming book describes a young girl’s experience of vacationing
at the cottage, having her older sister as her primary playmate, and
then losing her sister to a new girl from across the lake. Zizi, the
young girl, feels left out and hurt when Tish and her new friend go off
and do all sorts of more grown-up activities, leaving Zizi to play by
herself. Fortunately for Zizi, the novelty of the new relationship wears
off and the older girls begin to include her. The book has a moving
resolution in which Tish lovingly demonstrates her understanding of how
Zizi feels, rescues her during one fearful moment, and supports her
during another.

This gentle story is amusing, touching, and highly engaging. Lively
watercolour illustrations beautifully evoke cottage life and the many
activities that go along with it. An excellent read for sisters trying
to deal with the ups and downs of the sibling relationship. Highly
recommended.
