Review
Featuring the endearing turtle character, these two books, which are
based on TV episodes, are geared to children who can read with help.
In Franklin Stays Up, Franklin decides he wants to stay awake all night
long and plans a stay-up-over with his friends Bear, Rabbit, and Snail.
The friends amuse themselves by playing games and eating until one by
one they fall asleep. Franklin is the only one able to stay awake until
sunrise. He is also the only one who sleeps through the special pancake
meal his mother makes for breakfast.
In Franklin’s Trading Cards, the little turtle collects Superhero
Trading Cards from Fly Krispy cereal. Soon his friends are doing the
same and conflict arises over who gets to keep the elusive Super Cat
cards in their collection. After some thought and a bit of creativity,
Franklin devises a plan that keeps everyone happy.
The stories are engaging and have amusing, satisfying endings. The
repetitive sentences offer opportunities for practice with new words.
The sturdy hardcover books are durable and the illustrations are
evocative. Both books are highly recommended.
