Review

Franklin is an endearing character who looks like a turtle but expresses
the emotions of a child. The four stories in this collection, which
follows on the heels of Franklin’s Classic Treasury (1999) and
Franklin’s Friendship Treasury (2000), focus on the theme of family
values.

In “Franklin Goes to the Hospital,” Franklin faces his fear of
hospitalization and learns about being brave when he is injured and must
have an operation. In “Franklin’s Baby Sister,” Franklin learns
patience as he awaits the birth of his baby sister. In “Franklin and
Harriet,” Franklin discovers that while his baby sister can be
tiresome, he does in fact care for her. Finally, in “Franklin Says I
Love You,” the youngster visits each of his friends to learn how they
make their mother’s birthday special; he then develops his own way of
sharing his love with his mother.

Franklin’s Family Treasury would be an excellent gift book as well as
a school or public library purchase. Recommended.
