Review

This slender volume gives lay readers a bird’s-eye view of the
Canadian navy’s ships in the last half century. There are photographs
of every type of warship from the St. Laurent class to the Upholder
submarines (which have not yet entered Canadian service). The author
offers a brief text and details on displacement, dimensions, armaments,
and propulsion; and there are appendixes that provide some anecdotal and
technical material. The whole is a useful reference, a mini-version of
Jane’s Fighting Ships, but one focused tightly on the Canadian navy.
Canadian Warships Since 1956 should be in every public library.
