Review

A tiny clown searches the circus grounds for his missing dog. In simple
rhyming text, he questions his fellow performers: “Hello, Jo! Hello,
Mo! Where’s Pup? Can’t say. Go ask Ray. He’s washing Kay.” The
double-paged spread shows an animal trainer feeding lunch to a gorilla
wearing a polka-dotted bib. The following page reveals Ray perched on an
elephant, working up a sudsy lather.

Pierre Pratt’s jewel-toned acrylic illustrations vibrantly capture
such big-top scenes as a pig being launched from a cannon, and a mouse
jumping through a hoop. Children will delight in unfolding the final
three-part page to find the pup precariously balanced at the top of a
pyramid of acrobats.

The rhythmic refrain makes this book perfect for beginning readers, as
well as being a crowd-pleasing storytime favourite. Highly recommended.
