Review
The narrator of this unconventional yet heart-warming novel is Alison
Gutherie, a 40-something lesbian coach of a women’s professional
hockey team. Paralleling the team’s evolution as a group is Alison’s
personal search for love. The reader learns a great deal about the often
adversarial inner workings of the hockey world. The novel also provides
a sensitive and revealing look at the lesbian community. The brief
history of women’s hockey is chronicled in an afterword.
Unconventional or not, Iced is a fast-paced and highly entertaining
read.
