Review

For anyone going on a road trip with kids, this book would be a good
investment. With more than 40 different puzzles, quizzes, and
activities, kids will be kept entertained for several hours.

Each activity has Canadian content. You can match famous Canadians to
their “claim to fame,” fill in blanks in the names of Canadian
cities and towns, do Canadian crosswords, and guess at the answers to
questions about obscure Canadians and Canadiana. Some of the activities,
such as word-finds, are appropriate for younger children. Others are at
a young-adult to adult level. Some of the trivia is current popular
culture that kids will know (e.g., “What logo was on Avril Levigne’s
soccer shirt when she appeared on Saturday Night Live?”). Some of it
is sufficiently obscure that it would challenge both kids and adults
(e.g., “Where in Alberta is it illegal to call someone a ‘fat
wingless duck’?”; “What book opens with the statement, ‘I’m
gonna hurl!’).

The answers and solutions are at the back of the book, so it can be
used as a learning tool, but because so much of the content is Canadian
history and popular culture, younger children might find it frustrating.

This activity book is printed in black ink on uncoated paper and is
meant to be written in and used up. As a result, it would not be a good
choice for libraries. Highly recommended.
