Review

Amazing Body contains 10 super-size pages chock full of information
about the human body. The book, designed for the budding scientist or
anyone else who wants to learn about the human body, looks at five body
systems. What makes it unique is that built into the book is a tray
containing 30 body parts that can be placed on the pages to complete the
described body system. There are all kinds of body parts—bones,
tongues, intestines, other organs.

The book begins with a description of each body part, from the pancreas
to olfactory bulb. Interesting bits of information appear in small print
around the outside of the pages (e.g., Did you know that a human taste
bud has a lifespan of just over a week or that there are 206 bones in
the human body?). Next the skeleton is described. Pages 5 and 6 are
devoted to the five sensory systems. The next two pages cover the
breathing and circulatory systems, while the last two pages focus on the
digestive system. Graham’s writing is short and witty, and the
activities he includes are certain to keep young readers engaged. Highly
recommended.
